Learning To Count and Add Using Dice
![]()
This idea was given to me by a friend who is quite creative in thinking of ways to make learning interesting. Sometimes young children find recognizing and adding numbers both boring and difficult. Using dice can sometimes make a difference in the student's attitude. Start with a single die, and have the child roll it and write the number that corresponds to the number of dots that appear.
Later, use a pair of dice and have the child add the numbers. Being able
to count the dots is a good way to help achieve success before the concept of
"adding" starts to make sense. You can include more dice as progress dictates.
In any case, the use of the dice may make this game a great opportunity to
entice the child to participate in an activity that is educational and fun.

I hope that you have found my idea interesting. I am always looking for additional methods, information and resources that are useful in education, so if you know of any that I don't have links to, let me know about them. If you have a helpful tip that you would like to share, but don't have a web site, send it to me, and if I publish it, I'll include your e-mail address with it so you can get feedback. Have a great day!
