Fragile X Syndrome is an inherited condition that I've read affects between 1 of 600 to 1 of 3,000 people. The problem tends to be asociated with varying degrees of mental retardation and some relatively predictable behavior patterns. It is now known to be a result of a weakened X chromosome, hence the association with "fragility" I expect. Fragile-X is observed more often in boys than girls, yet it is the mother that is the carrier of the weakness. Rather than try to do the subject justice here, I invite you to visit the following links.
